21 days of prayer

Day 13

January 17th

Joshua Brantley, Worship Pastor

Matthew 17:17-20
“You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Often times we see Jesus teaching, rebuking, and/or instructing his disciples. This is another example of some loving strong words from Jesus. When his disciples asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”, he frankly states “because you have so little faith.” Wow, that seems tough. As Christians, we understand the importance of faith. Many times we lack the ability to make that understanding a reality in many aspects of our lives. Throughout these 21 days of prayer, I pray that our faith becomes stronger; not our knowledge and understanding of faith, but our “put it into practice” faith.

God, thank you for your love. Thank you for your word. Thank you that by diving deep into not only reading, but also applying your word, we can grow stronger in our faith. I know that no matter where we are on this journey of faith, we should always be growing in our trust and dependence on you. I pray that we won’t allow our minds and our emotions to focus on everything around us, but instead that we will lean into your word, your truth and your promises. Let 2020 be the year we grow more than ever before in our faith.
