21 days of prayer
Day 11
January 15th
"A Genuine Prayer To God” – Joel Leggett, Associate Pastor of Next Gen
Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
David knew in this prayer that it would be difficult to know his own heart at the deepest depths, so he asked God to know it. This goes back to the saying “God can’t heal who you pretend to be, but he can heal what you reveal.” Obviously David is well aware that God already knows what’s in his heart, but it’s the submission through confession that makes this prayer powerful. Many times I’ve been stuck in prayer knowing what to say but I was afraid of God’s resolution to my prayer. Today, I encourage you to ask God to show you what you’ve been missing and get ready to walk boldly through 2020 with a renewed heart.
God, we thank You for today. We ask that You search our hearts and give us holy desires. You know what we need and how we need to receive it, so today we ask You to set our eyes on the things that move You. If there is darkness and anxious thoughts that are weighing us down, we ask You to help us to be made whole again and give us the strength to walk through the testing as You change us.
