“About that time King Herod Agrippa began to persecute some believers in the church. He had the apostle James (John’s brother) killed with a sword. When Herod saw how much this pleased the Jewish people, he also arrested Peter. (This took place during the Passover celebration. ) Then he imprisoned him, placing him under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring Peter out for public trial after the Passover. But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.”

The apostles James and Peter had been preaching the Word. Herod Agrippa began to persecute believers and had James killed and Peter arrested. There wasn’t much that the Christ followers, the church, could do for Peter at this point, but they could pray. They prayed earnestly. That’s our job as the church! Prayer changes things - pray earnestly, fervently, without ceasing for each other. Pray with confidence and have faith that things will change because of your prayers. Pray with the expectancy that God’s will will be done.

An angel of the Lord guided Peter out of his jail cell and through the streets to the house of Mary where many were gathered in prayer. When they saw him, they were overcome with emotion of what God had done. When the body comes together in unity, The miraculous can happen!

Father, help me to pray earnestly, fervently, without ceasing. Help me to pray with complete faith that your will will be done. Put people in my church on my heart to intercede for so that I can help fight their battles. May we be a church united in prayer for each other, our church, and our city.
